A PRAYER STORY
Several years ago during the period of time I lived in England, I was packing and getting ready for a visit back to California to visit my friends and family. The visit was very important to me because I was not particularly happy living in London and really looked forward to the occasions when I could be back in my homeland on American soil.
It was the night before I was leaving on a morning flight and I suddenly discovered my passport was nowhere to be found. My husband and I searched in all the usual places, and even in a few unusual places, and came up empty handed. My husband started to get frantic (even though he was staying at home) and I was also becoming quite concerned.
But then something very wonderful happened. It suddenly occurred to me that I had a choice – that I could be frantic or I could be calm and that by choosing to be calm I probably had a better chance of finding that passport.
So I asked my husband to go back downstairs and do whatever he could do to chill out, and I sat on my bed surrounded with the last-minute things to be put in the suitcase. I took some deep breaths and I said to God and the Angels “If it is for the Highest Good of All Concerned, please help me find my passport now.”
I kept my eyes closed and within just a few moments, I could see in my mind’s eye, putting my passport in one of the pockets of a suitcase I had used on a previous trip – but had decided NOT to use for this trip. I called to my husband and asked him to help retrieve the suitcase from the depths of the storage cupboard which he did.
Slowly and with expectation, I unzipped the compartment I had “seen”, and there it was – my passport – pristine, perfect and ready for my morning flight.
It was a wonderful lesson to me about staying calm and asking for help. Now, when I misplace something, I remember that particular night and I pause, take a few deep breaths, and ask the Angels to show me where it is. And you won’t be surprised to learn that more often than not, I find what I was looking for – or – at the very least, I am able to be calm and move forward without anxiety, all for a simple prayer.
